Summer glass

Sooo today I'm here to show what I do in my "summer job" which is called glass etching! well I'm not really the one that does the etching, I just do drawings, use an knife to cut them out trying to leave positive or negative spaces, and then its send to Rigo (the etching guy) who wears a mask and uses a pressure machine to add sand size pieces of glass into the part of the glass that's left exposed. (Remember English is not my first language so this is a little hard to explain, but here are some photos of what I do.)

I started by put tape all over the piece of glass I had, this was a free drawing so I decided to do a seahorse
Look at the knife there. It a signal of that poor tape's destiny
Next is to use the knife to take off all of the tape from the places where you want the etching to be. In this case the seahorse.
Here's a detail from his face, notice the little pieces of tape left in order to respect the shape

Once you're don with the knife, the glass is taken to the etching room (which doesn't take more than 5 minutes) and here's the result:

Now you just take all the tape off the glass and voila!

I'll show you more of etching next time!

dolls*

Hellooooo! I must admit I've been lazy on updating this blog, but my computer is so slow I get lazy just with thinking I have to wait for it to turn on completely. Anyway, a few entries ago I said I was working on 3 projects... I'm not sure I'll show all of them... one turned out really bad... and I need to steal my parents' good camera XD ........so I'll begin by showing my favorite:
My creepy doll sculpture!

Materials
  • found objects
  • clay to give it some weight
  • thread
  • glue
  • acrylic paint
  • fabric
  • wire
basically...
her face was a mardi grass ornament, some sort of mask, which I painted later. I also took the bell from that ornament.

The fish tail is because of some creepy news I heard when I was little about a doll that had a fish skeleton

Do you like it?
Are you scared?
A little?
This was based on Batman's fear of bats, Walt Disney's fear of mice, and my fear of porcelain dolls...
well I kinda like them... from a distance. Rozen Maiden is one of my favorite anime :P

Animal Sketches!! and lame score sheet (T_T)

So I was seeing all these sketches I had, and I realized many of them were animals in my atempt to improve on the subject for my portfolio.
I did these guys last semester

Also durign the winter fair I learned that cows can be as big as an elephant... and they hardly fit in your page if you don't know that. So I just considered this guy to be decent enough to show.

Then during christmas break... Meet Carlos the Iguana :D (He has the face of a Carlos, so I decided that should be his name) and his friend...

Last week I went to my roommate's town and I met her dogs and cats! but since the cats barely appeared, I just drew her dogs

I did some leg sudies and then I tried doing more of a character with the dogs

Finally, a new sketch of my dear character Chiripa who got all fours in my portfolio evaluation :D
Though neither of us deserve that.... She is mean and I don't feel like my drawings of her were good enough...

Oh and my sad 3.15 scoresheet....
Why am I posting these? because when I was working on my portfolio these things were good feedback to me! so I hope this can help somebody :)

Let's start a musical number because... I got in!

Yes! I did it, after three tries I'm in now!!! I'm sooooo happy! yes! so much I could make a musical number about it. Sorry what I mean is.. that I got into the animation school I wanted :D
Now I'll finally be making what I want to do! and that's a really nice feeling. I posted my animation portfolio a few days ago saying that I hoped it was the winning one, and it was. I just feel really bad for the people that didn't get in. I've been through that twice, and its a terrible feeling! Its the word they use to say it "refused" it sounds like they angrily said that they didn't want you. But I'll help anyone who wants my help, even if its moral help cause I don't consider myself thaaat good (and I haven't gotten my score sheet yet). Anyways I promise I'll do my best to add all the love of the world in every drawing I do. Hopefully I'll make some good magic that'll make others happy ^ ^
I had many ideas of musical numbers, but I'll just leave you with one that always makes me happy, and its also Chripa's (my character) theme song. For some reason  I just had more fun and inspiration drawing her when I was listening to this.

Sorry... no art today, just happiness. But I'm working on three projects right now, so its all good

sketches and a painting

Well hello again my dear world, this time I brought some sketchbook randomness with me... and a painting. Tell me if you see an improvement, some are quite old....
2010
2011

I also want to introduce you to my grandfather and his Scrat hat (yes Scrat for the Ice Age movie) my cousins made him wear. It was very fun to draw though it kind of reminds me of Van Gogh  :P
aaand of course I have a lot more sketches, but these are the ones I have scanned so far.. a big notebook is good for drawing, but certainly not for scanning.... but oh well.
And here's the painting. I wanted to post it now cause I'm proud of it! :D its the first thing of mine that goes on display this year! and its a painting! I used to be so bad at it...

Portfolio Part 3 ~layout~

Yes! the las part is here! also one of the hardest
*cough*room drawing*cough* again sorry for the bad quality photos my camera takes... and my shaky hands

Actually I did have fun drawing this, it was just difficult. But here's another one I really like, my object drawings! I like the second one better, I feel like the first one is kind of empty... but I couldn't make it work as I wanted if it wasn't so simple at first.

Finally here are the sculptures I used as extra pieces... I just feel sad for the crocodile cause again chicken pox didn't let me finish it the way I wanted to.

That's all folks!
Hope you enjoyed seeing my portfolio and wish me luck... this is my last chance, but as all the people around me say: believe in yourself and be positive!

Portfolio Part 2 ~animation part~ aka the fun part

Actually I had fun doing all of my portfolio. But yeah I guess this was one of the parts I enjoyed the most, except maybe for the storyboard. Don't get me wrong, I love the final thing, but it was hard to do.

Now meet Chiripa :) and her rotation

please ignore any possible mistakes..... bad thing to look at your portfolio after handing it in... anyway the judges already saw it, and I hope they can forgive my mistakes... but I think its good that I was able to see those mistakes because that means I'm improving... I guess
Next are my action poses and expressions!

Finally for the second part, storyboard! I was so happy they changed the characters, and the story. I just had more practice drawing girls and dogs :P

End of part 2
